We were headed to the airport, but first we stopped off at the High Dam. Built in the 1960's, it is 11,811 feet long, 3215 feet thick at the base and and 364 feet tall. It provides irrigation and electricity for the whole of Egypt. The dam created Lake Nassar which at 500 miles long was, at the time it was built, the world's largest artifical lake.
The Egyptian Russian monument for the Russians who helped build the dam.
Then it was off to the airport for a private flight to Abu Simbel at the other end of Lake Nassar.
