We spent the rest of the day on the boat cruising down the Nile to Esna.
We were at lunch when we approached the lock at Esna. Suddenly a small boat crashed into ours. Was it an accident? Pirates? No, it was more of those pesky vendors. While boats are waiting their turn at the lock, they are a captive audience. The vendors throw towels, t-shirts and gowns up to the deck of the boat. If someone wants an item, they yell back and forth to negotiate a price and throw the money back down. If nobody wants the item, someone throws the item back down. Some people were even asking for different colors and sizes, and merchandise was flying back and forth for a while before we entered the lock.
